In this tutorial, we will be drawing a strawberry.
This strawberry was drawn with an HB pencil on smooth Bristol cardboard.
Step 1. Outline the shape of the strawberry with a few strokes.
Step 2. Outline the little leave on top of the strawberry.
Step 3. Lightly shade the middle and base of the strawberry.
Step 4. Scatter the seeds over the surface of the strawberry.
Since the seeds are pressed to the surface, also outline the shapes for the future shadow around the seeds.
Step 5. Adding highlights and shadows to the strawberry drawing.
It is very important to correctly draw the shadows around the seeds, forming small rounded areas where there are both light and dark parts. The trick is imagining the source of light and how it interacts with the little seed holes. With light coming from above, the shade will be darkest above the seeds. The part below the seed actually gets more light. Also, create highlights and shadows on the berry itself to realistically convey its uneven surface.
