In this lesson, we will draw a Nanda ostrich with a pencil step by step. It looks like an African ostrich, lives in South America, is omnivorous, has a speed of 50 miles per hour, and has a claw on its wings.
Step 1. How to draw an ostrich's head.
First, draw the brow ridges and the beak, then the head and eyes. The top of the head is almost flat.
Step 2. Outline the body and legs of the ostrich.
Sketch with barely visible lines of the body, its shape, and location relative to the head, neck, and paws.
Step 3. Draw the shape of the ostrich's body.
Using the auxiliary lines from the previous step draw the body shape of the ostrich.
Step 4. Draw legs.
Using the auxiliary lines from step two, now draw the ostrich's legs.
Step 5. Draw ostrich's feathers.
Now draw the feathers. There are a lot of them, but they lie close to each other. Also, add folds at the knees and some grass under the feet.
Step 6. Hatch the ostrich drawing.
Add light shadows on the muzzle, a little on the neck, and more curves to simulate feathers. Then shade the dark area from the bottom of the back, as well as lines on the legs and dark areas on them.
