In this drawing tutorial, we have 2 learning objectives. First, we will learn to draw a cup with a handle. Second, we will look into how to draw glass. Glass is a difficult material to draw as you need to show its transparency and reflections. In our case, the glass is also bent into a cylinder, further complicating the drawing. But I hope with our step-by-step drawing tutorial, you will find the drawing process straightforward and will learn how to draw a glass cup with a handle.
Step 1. Outline the height and width of the glass cup with straight lines.
First, outline the drawing of our glass with a few straight lines. In this step, we need to draw a center line and outline the glass cup's bottom and upper parts.
Step 2. Draw the upper and bottom parts of the cup and its handle.
In step two, draw the ovals for the top and bottom of the cup. Next, draw the curved lines connecting the upper and bottom ovals. Then, outline the shape of the cup handle.
Step 3. Continue drawing the cup handle.
In this step, continue outlining the handle for our cup. Also, add additional ovals to the top of the cup.
Step 4. Draw the shape of the glass cup and its handle.
In this step, using the original auxiliary lines, we draw the shape of the cup with a hard pencil. With that, we finalize the shape of the cup and its handle.
Step 5. Draw the reflections inside the glass parts of the glass.
The trick of our drawing is to show that our cup is made of glass. With that, we need to show the reflections inside the cup. We do this with the lines as shown below.
Step 6. Continue drawing the reflections on the surface of the cup.
Alternating darker and lighter lines, we continue drawing the reflections inside and on the surface of the cup and its handle.
Step 7. Add the shade on the cup's glass and the shade next to the cup.
In the last step of our cup drawing tutorial, we add dark, thick lines showing the shades inside the glass. Also, as you can see below, we shaded the bottom part of the glass and inside the glass. As our light source is on the left, we also shaded under the cup handle, the right part of the cup, and inside the cup that is "in the shade." Lastly, add the shade on the right below the cup.
