How to draw a rattlesnake. Step-by-step drawing tutorial.
Updated: Sep 21, 2022
Rattlesnake's snakeskin patterns tend to be repetitive, so they are fairly easy to draw. Just remember to apply the laws of perspective to your drawing, reducing the size of the snake shape where it is farther away from the viewer.

Step 1. Draw the outline of the rattlesnake's coils.
First, draw the outline of the rattlesnake's body coils, and designate the shape of the head and the ratchet at the end of the tail. At this stage, draw all layers of the snake's body visible, that is, the tail should shine through the rings of the body - this will ensure accuracy, in the finished drawing you can easily erase all auxiliary lines.

Step 2. Add details to the rattlesnake drawing.
Mark the position of the eye and mouth, and add a forked tongue at the end. To create the illusion of scales, draw S-shaped lines towards the tail on the part of the body closest to the viewer.

Step 3. Draw scales to the rattlesnake's body.
Now draw the scales on the rest of the snake's body and start shading the diamond pattern on its body. Then erase all the sketch lines - they are no longer needed - and add shadows under the coils of the body.

Step 4. Draw shading and darker spots to finish the rattlesnake drawing.
Finish shading the head and ratchet. Add a shadow to the lower third of the body to give it a cylindrical shape. To complete the drawing, depict the snake's familiar environment by drawing a few pebbles and a rough ground surface as a background.
