How to draw Darth Vader with a pencil. Step-by-step drawing tutorial.

With this post, we are opening a new path on our learn-to-draw website. In the past, we were focusing on drawing animals and nature. Now we will start adding people, fantasy and sci-fi characters, anime characters, etc. We will still continue also adding drawing lessons to learn to draw animals and nature but will mix it up a bit.
In this lesson, we will learn to draw probably the most famous sci-fi character: Darth Vader.
Step 1. Start with outlining the top of Darth Vader's helmet.
Start with outlining the top of the helmet. Also, add a center line running across the helmet. In our drawing, Darth Vader's head is turned to the side at 45 degrees. The center line will later help position the eyes, nose, and the center of the bottom part of the mask.
Step 2. Add the contour lines for Darth Vader's helmet.
Add the lines outlining the top of the helmet's goggles, nose, the bottom of respirator holes, and eyebrows. Also, add lines outlining the collar of the cape.
Step 3. Drawing details of Darth Vader's helmet.
Add the lines for the respirator and the behind part of the helmet that covers his neck.
Step 4. Draw additional details of Darth Vader's helmet.
Using the previous lines add additional details: the bottom part of the goggles, and the round shape of the bottom of the helmet.
Step 5. Add inner lines for Darth Vader's respirator.
Step 6. Add texture to the respirator and outline the cape of Darth Vader.
Step 7. Start shading parts of the helmet of Darth Vader.
Step 8. Continue hatching the parts of the helmet.
As you can see we roughly hatch some of the parts. Note how we leave unhatched lines on the goggles representing reflection from glass in them
Step 9. The drawing of Darth Vader is complete.
Continue shading the helmet leaving some parts that are facing the source of the light unshaded. Darth Vader's drawing is complete.
